Long time and avid surf fisher wanting to get a shark rod and reel. I usually fish for the frying pan but want to grab a shark rod to have out during that time. Looking for a spinning rod and reel. I’m not cheap but not looking to break the bank. Been upgrading to st croix and daiwa bgs from ugly stiks and penn fierce 2s for my drum and fry pan fish. Any recommendations for an entry level or slightly better SPINNING ROD and SPINNING REEL? Thanks so much.

Bg or battle 3 8000 are about the same. Next step up is the slammer and saragosa you never here anything bad about either functional wise. Some people think the drag is a little light on the saragosa and put a better drag on a saragosa and call it a stella. People say the slammer is heavy and feels like a wench. Personally i think the battle 3 10500 would be the biggest baddest for the budget. For the rod you want a 9 to 11ftr depending how big and strong you are. A 10ft heavy rod that can throw a lot of weight is ideal. I think ocean master has a heavy 10ftr that is good. The extra distance on the bigger rods kill you on the fight. Plus you really cant throw heavy gear that far.
Cool. Thanks a lot. Lots of that I would not have considered since I’m usually fishing 3 or less plus bait and the greater the length the greater the advantage.
