FISH-ON or anybody,I was looking at the photo gallery and seen that you caught a nice size black drum from AI. I was wondering how the fishing is there, what type of fish can be caught there, what type of license should I get, and what type of bait. Judging from the picture it seems that it's a peaceful place where you can relax, fish and have fun.

that was actually my first time going to AI. i went with Hat80 and Shaggy met us there a little later. as for bait...fresh bunker/menhaden/alewive and fresh/live peeler crabs was our bait of choice for that trip. bloodworm will catch you some kingfish though. personally, i've seen black drum, bluefish, flounder, kingfish, shark, skates and rays caught there. i assume there are other different species to be caught. might need to ask a more seasoned angler of AI.

i've heard it is pretty slow right now. i guess i was fortunate to have gone when i did. i believe you do not need a license to fish the ocean, but you may want to check. there are also fees for driving onto the beach. hope this helps a little.

Ai Info

Youcan take a vehicle onto the ORV area.....need $70 permit and several pieces of equpment.....tire pressure gauge, 12"x12" jack plate, jack, shovel and tow rope are all mandidtory. Air down to about 15-20psi and put'r in 4wheel. If your gonna make a habbit of going get the $20 year pass otherwise pay the entrance fee.

right now kingfish, spot, croaker can be had as well as snapper blues, MAYBE a black or red if you're lucky and all the sharks you want. Also a few small stripers as well as flounder. The sharks seem to be in the 40lb-100lb range but sharks over 150lbs are not uncommon. In fact an AI regular evidentally lost "one" about 8' in the surf a few weeks back, most likely a huge female sandbar or maybe a tiger or sandtiger, but they normally like a little cooler water.....all of which are caught off AI along with spinner sharks and afew other types from time to time. The majority of sharks this time of year are sandbars. There are GREAT eating and so much fun to catch. I'll be there sometime this weekend to test out my new set-up :) :) :) CAN"T WAIT!

'OH YEH, you can walk on!
