I absolutely love these lures, the finish sucks and usually scrapes off, but they produce for me. What I hate is the carnage those 9 hook points create on fish not intending to keep. Anyone take them off and replace with singles?

I am thinking about taking it down to one set fore, and aft of the lure leaving the middle alone.

I use spooks all the time, one of my favorite sw producers. Instead of replacing those with a single, why not consider just eliminating the middle hook altogether? I took all the middle hooks out of my triple treble plugs. For the double hook smaller plugs, I leave the front treble, and replaced many of the rear trebles with a single.
If you're releasing fish, it's a lot kinder, easier to get back into the action when there's a blitz.

I just modified two Spooks with a single on the front and middle (bend towards the front) and a treble on the back. The action is a little bigger on the side-to-side, and and the plug gets better hook-ups from rear-striking bass.

Just my .02

That lure has almost given me high blood pressure. The amazing strikes it will produce from P'd off stripers and I've nailed my share of largemouths with them too! I too, took out the middle hook completely and replaced the front hook with a single J hook. Just my .02 cents, but my goodness I love those lures!!!!

Spooks

I've never heard of a sinking one unless it was altered in some way. I do know of people who drilled holes in them to insert some shot then reseal the hole to make them rattle.

Tie it on with a loop knot and learn to 'Walk the Dog'. C2

To work the spook I use a gentle up and down motion, not to fast, but maintaining pressure on the line. When I am using a spook the lure looks like a snake in the water gently working in a zig zag, not splish splashing wildly. The key to using the lure is to not use a snap, when I use a snap the action is terrible.

The saltwater zara's all have a shiny finish that rubs off very easily, but anything hitting a spook isnt really pausing to compare the colors.
