Fished from 5:30a - 7:30a on Saturday July 12th with Red-Eye; between us we tagged 10 small flounder from 12" to 15" using a variety of plasic jigs and grubs.

I guess the good news on this report is that one of the fish that Red-Eye caught ended up being the 500th flounder that I've measured / tagged / released this year.

Again, many thanks to those folks who let me tag their fish including Flounder Pounder, Lar, Ed, Bob, Kimoslobby & Red-Eye, and many others whom I've met along the way.

The significance of the 500th tag is that last year from March - October I only tagged 400. And the best year, in 2001, I only tagged 555, so this looks like a really good catch / release tagging year so far.

Do you think you've tagged more flounder this year because of having the help or do you think there are getting to be more flounder? I'm noticing that this year you are talking mostly about fish in the 12-15 inch range. If I recall correctly last year there was a discussion about the absence of flounder in the 14 inch range. Any thoughts on this?

I've had a lot of help every year, but last year, I didn't get but a handfull from Yorktown ... and not for lack of trying. This year, that seems to be a hot spot for me.

As far as the sizes, the bigger ones are out there ... I'm just not the one getting them.

[Flounder Pounder]

Jack Ace, speaking of bigger fish. In our last 3 trips across the river, Larry and I have caught 14 fish over 17.5, the amazing thing is 10 have of them have gone over 20 inches. The biggest was 23. Lots of little ones today, probably 50 between us.
