My time in the salt is over. So now it's time to start getting ready for next year. I want to make a gaff. Did a search and went through all the posts and still have a few questions. What are good dementions? Overall length and width, gap size, and point length? Also those threads are a few years old, so is there any new thoughts on gaffs? Thanks Josh

By "pier gaff" are you referring to the standard 4 or 5 prong weighted hook device or are you thinking you a single large "hook" on a long possibly extendable pole?

The one I have I bought from TWs and is made by Sea Striker I believe. It uses 4 Mustad 16/0 J hooks. Not sure what the hook gap size is but its big and works well
You'll want to use a thick rope like 1/2 or 5/8 that is easier to grip when you're hauling up a big Cobia or whatever.
