If you go down to Wrightsville you park at the south end and walk to the big jetty to cast for trout. At low tide you can walk out on it if you feel brave. Also on the small bridge that crosses the waterway as you head to Johnny mercers. I have had good success casting small green grubs off the bridge at night.
It's been a few years though since i was last down.

Hey DD....

I'm alive and well. Been some major life changes in the past year but I intend to to do some serious casting, fishing and hog riding in 04. Hope to make it up to the banks a time or two as well.

I lived in Wilmington for a few years before i got married. Had the season pass to Crystal pier before they rebuilt it.
A buddy i met playing in the Dart League had a small skiff, drug me all over Masonboro Inlet and around the back of Figure Eight island. Some big flounder back in there on mud minnows.
For trout though we used pull up to the bank on one of the cutts behind Wrightsville and fish from the bank by casting grubs and drift them through it on the outgoing tide.
One summer day i was back in there hunting crabs so we could mash em for the mud minnow trap when i waded accross a small channel, dang if a Hammerhead didn't cruise right by me.
I said to my buddy joe did you see that, he just nodded as we edged to the bank !:jawdrop:

jetty at Wilmington

I am new to the area but I heard the same thing about the wall at the Jetty and have been about 10 times over the last month with no luck. I threw mirror lures and the gren grubs plus shrimp on a jighead-everything I thought might work but no luck. I do go out on the wall and actually was knocked off close to shore by a big wave when I wasnt paying attention due to a school of mud minnows I was looking at It was cold! Anyhow I met some folks and had some fun but no specks or anything else. looks like a good spot for later in the year though. I am looking to spend about 5-7 grand on a boat ( depends on what I can get for my Buick Riviera) so I will be ready! uncdub I sent you an e-mail but I dont know if you got it. Anyone that has some ideas on what boat or where to fish in the area let me know. I did e-mail a local capt and he told me they have some rockfish over at the Cape fear memorial bridge but I didnt get any today when I tried this a.m.. some big battleships to look at though and its always better to be fishing than not

Try off the small bridge right before you come to Johnny Mercers'.
That was a trout producing spot. We fished under it, went i went out in the boat. But i caught 14 specks one December night off that bridge fishing a green Mr twister on a red head.
