I got myself a cast net last year and used it a bit with varying luck but mostly on the no luck side. Sure I can blame some of that on thee banana tosses, but I think I've worked that out and I'm mostly getting good spread now. I think my problem is where I'm tossing it. I've tried the shores at Dam Neck and near Lesner bridge. I've been hesitant to toss it inside Lynnahven inlet or Broad bay as I'm concerned it will get hung up on oysters or other bottom stuff.

So my question is, if you were planning to heading out surf fishing or maybe try your luck with it a boat around the CBBT, where would you toss your cast net to try and get some bait. Thanks!

BTW - This is in part, inspired by NOB_Legend's's post in the NOB Pier thread where he gave us a good spot to cast net for some bait.

Look for schools of bunker or finger mullet around where you're fishing. In the fall you can see the mullet in the surf. bunker are fairly common around bridges, but you need a heavy or wider net in deeper water to keep the bait from swimming out from under it as it sinks.

Been watching some videos and saw some folks casting by the bouts and cbbt. Didn't think of that. Might try that next time I go out with friends.

When the mullet are around they swim in what look like a v pattern right below the surface. But as be hi said you may need a bigger net or you have to be very accurate with the smaller one and pull it closed quickly after it lands over the fish.
