Good day and happy holidays! Just doing some thinking about where to fish in the coming weeks and then in the spring. I reside in North Harford County so I have best access to Conowingo , along the Susquehanna and the shoreline of the flats. But I most enjoy fishing saltier waters for species like spot, croaker, so most of my fishing when I venture down the bed is done at Sandy point and Matapeake but even there is sometimes a stretch. I read about people getting better numbers down Southern Md and that like 3 hours away so I might as well go to the ocean if I go that far. but the fact is, I actually think I'm closer to the Delaware bay's saltwater.so my question is, how far into Delaware do I need to go in order to start seeing saltwater species like croaker and flounder in the Spring and summer?when I drive to Rehobeth with the family, I see signs for a few beaches after Dover. Do you guys know if they're public? Fishable?

Cape Henlopen fishing pier. For you it will cost $10.00 to get in. I bought a pass for any Delaware State Park for $35.00 a year. Check the web site for Cape Henlopen fishing pier. Also good fishing in Lewes Delaware from land if you know were to go. Ask in tackle shop.

Ah great! Thanks so much! I do like Henlopen a lot but I'm looking for something in about an hours drive (from havre de grace). Gonna try broadkill I guess and see what that's like. Great feedback guys!

If you are going to use the resource, pay the fee.
It is how we have nice things at a reasonable cost.
Depends. If there is an honor box, then yes, pay the user fee. If "gate" is open, or "guard box is empty", then it's free admission, again, if there is no honor box. When the Henlopen shack is not being manned, it allows 4WD vehicles, properly registered for beach driving, to pass through. The vehicle tag gives the owner the right to fish. Without a beach buggy tag, one needs proper licensing for fishing. I'm not up on all those Park fee collection methods and times, because my truck is tagged for year round use, whether entering a fishing beach (if access is open), or any State Park, but there are also seasonal times when entrance fees for all others are not collected.

I'm 43 yrs old and been going to cape henolopen pier since I was 9 it has always had a time frame when no one was in the gaurd shack now I believe it's empty from 12mid-6a and if you leave the park and come back in when shack is occupied you just pay that's all. Yes it did open late this summer I fished there but it is supposed to close sometime this winter for more repairs

If you can time your arrival time right at cape henolopen you get in free the gaurd shack don't have 24hr occupancy last time I went no one in there
Be advised there may be an honor box for you to pay your park entry fee then you leave a slip on your dash board. After 1 Dec all DE state parks are free to enter. Free entry from 1 Dec -1 Mar.
