Spent a couple of days fishing the rivers and streams in Garrett County, MD. Water was low and trout skitterish. This called for light lines (2# test) and smaller lures.

Nature Natural landscape Riparian zone Nature reserve Water

Low water in Lostland Run area of NB

One area we fished was the Lostland Run area of the North Branch of the Potomac. To effectively fish the river you need to cross over the river and use the railroad tracks to make your way either up or downstream.

Track Transport Thoroughfare Railway Tree

Railroad tracks on WV side of the NB

Most trout were in the 14-17" range - not quite as large or plentiful as in the Spring. Beautiful time to be outside fishing with NO ONE around.

Wow..

I want to try it. Haven't been able to get it together.
And, to be honest, some of my trepidation is that I'd have no idea what I was doing.

But, damn that sounds like an amazing way to spend a weekend.

Is the bridge fixed to access lost land run? I use to swim there a lot as a kid but it washed out a few years back. Did you go to Autumn Glory festival? I made it home but didn't have time to fish :fishing:

Not really too much to it. This is REAL trout fishing - no artificial bait - just lures. All you need is a lightweight (not ultralight) rod with 4 or 6# mono, some small spoons/spinners, s set of chest waders complete with rubber-soled boots/cleats, and a wading staff (you can make you own out of a piece of tree). For this area (NB of the Potomac) you would need to pick up a copy of Steve Moore's book "Wade Fishing the North Branch of the Potomac River" ($18.00). It will tell you everything you need to know...

JJ,

Lost Land run road has been repaved and is smoooooooooth sailing all the way to the water now!

Went through Oakland before the festival started. Everyone had their folding chairs placed facing the street (Reserving their spots) of downtown Oakland on Sunday morning when were passing trhough at 6 AM to hit Lostland Run. Was going to hit the Wallman area too but that never happened...

AND like I said - NO ONE AROUND! :)

The upper Savage area above the reservoir has lots of brookies in lots of feeder streams...

The fish I caught were rainbows... Larger browns are in the larger rivers...

When the water gets very very low only small lures and very light light will catch them as they are super spooky

Orest - In my mind, I consider Powerbait (pellets) artificial bait

Hey Ron no problem.

When I started trout in Michigan we only used spinner or worms. I don't think power bait was around then.

I was just out at DCL the week before you were out there. Just fished the lake a little and enjoyed the time away from home and work.

Worms and spinners - sounds familar. Did you have the handy worm box that clipped to your belt too! LOL

The trees are changing colors now and it's really beautiful out there now...

We fished the lake from the State Park area - water levels are really really low right now...

I still have my bait canteen from when I was 16 or so. And my Articreel.

Need new waders as I have out grown my waders. I'm going to try a local stream this weekend and just walk the banks.

We stayed at the Willow O The Wisp Condo's just across from the SP.

I fished off the their docks.

Remember - No felt wading boots for MD.

Have you tried eating at Brenda's Pizzeria? It is right down from where you were staying. Killer calzone, pizza, everything else...

Never made it here..

We ate at the Black Bear Tavern and Restaurant(some of the best Cream of Crab soup I've had), Pine Lodge Steak House, Little Sandy's, Annie's Kitchen Country Restaurant and Ledo's.

I know about no felt in MD.

The Condo's have a great pool and 2 tier hot tub.

I use to work for Branda before she opened this place. She makes the best pizza in town. Stop by on Monday for 1/2 price pizza

One more little tip, Branda's husband's family owns Will O, Branda and Martin redid the dining room and opened it as Aces Run.

Martin was away visiting his brother Gary up north. He is still around Will O

As for Aces Run, I have went back a few times to eat and see Brenda but I didn't care for the steak or chicken I had. I prefer to go to Cornish Manor in Oakland
