Biggest target is oyster poaching. I've been seeing marine patrol at least once a week at menchville or James River marina and more than a few arrest being made. Have also heard they might soon be getting laser GPS technology so the officer can sit in his truck or be in a plane, hit a boat with the laser and know the exact location of the boat.
Also seemed to me that I talked to more marine patrol and dgif officers in 2015 than any other year of my life. Been checked twice already this year. Might want to make sure your license is good before making the first trip out guys.
They are also targeting recreational fishermen not just commercial. So if you have an undersized fish or too many of a certain species and get caught that's could be an automatic citation.
