I'm thinking about a trip down to the VA Beach area the weekend of the 17th-- leave Friday, come back Sunday night, with Saturday spent wreck fishing on the Super Sport II headboat out of Rudee Inlet ($80 for a full day). Figure that I'll intersperse some surf & pier fishing into the mix.

Anybody interested in heading down, sharing motels, etc?

Rugger, if my wreck fishing trip goes well this coming
weekend (3 Jan 04) on the Super Sport II, I will
probably hop on down there again that week.
I will stay in touch.

Creel Limit

What is the creel limit for seabass in Virginia? Is a trip of that magnitude subject to a creel limit? Do they target any other fish also.

The limit for seabass is 25 per person but the sea bass are usually running quite large so you usually end up with a good quantity of fish. You might luck out and get into a school of cod or pollack.

I think that the limit for tautog is also 7. The chances for a school of cod or pollack are very slim but you never know what you're gonna get when fishing wrecks.

On the trips last year they caught some taug, flounder,
bluefish, and giant conger eels. There is an article
in one of the March edition's (this year) of The Fisherman
magazine where a reporter went on one of the trips
and did a two page article on it. They give you a burlap
bag for your fish like on West Coast Party Boats to save
room at the rail. It is first come first serve for rail position,
(Capt Monty's system is much better) so if you have a spot
that you just must have you had better get there by 3 am!
It should not really matter though the boat will be drift fishing.
I have heard reports of 12 to 16 ounce to hold bottom, so make sure that if you bring your own rod/reel that it can handle
up to 18 ounces or more, and hold at least 300 of strong line or braid.
