Went to the pier on Saturday 18:00 till 07:00 about 13hours the next day. It was pleasant fishing when there was Latin Festival going on nearby despite constantly hearing "Boriqua!", "Mexico!", and "Colombia!"
Didn't even bother going to the end of the pier since there were folks lined up like sardines trying to catch Spanish Mackerels with their Gotchas; I'm sure those macks weren't there for the festival! At first it was rather dull with just few Spadefish until after sun went down, then the bites really picked up. Some skates and sand eels here and there, but the night was about catching those Southern Kingfish. I'm used to catching their Northern counterparts up in South Jersey, but I must have kept about a dozen of the roundheads and one I measured to be at 15", an inch short of citation size. Since it was my first time catching such big roundheads, I fished on all night long and later on, it was just tiny croakers after croakers. All in all, it was quite productive having my marathon fishing and it was also nice to catch my first Spots of the year. looking forward to vacationing in Virginia Beach again soon. :)

P.S.: Also had some time crabbing. But I think more crabs were caught on my lines than on my crab-pot. :p

Fishbites shrimp worked fine, so I suppose the real thing would work better. Squid was good too but it was attracting more croakers.
You'd be surprised, sometimes those fishbites really do the trick compared to the real thing. I know a guy that won't touch real shrimp and goes for bites every single time, and he's more successful than I am. Then again, EVERYONE is more successful than I am!

Fishbites shrimp comes in 8 color variations (yellow, flesh, chartreuse, pink, orange, electric chicken, power lime and flesh pink).
And there's two types that interest me....EZ Shrimp (2 long strips per pack) and Fish’n Strips (15 pieces per pack) .
Which color and type were you using?

Thanks Da-fish. I may head out to the Oceanfront sometime this weekend.

I used both EZ Shrimp, Fish'N Strips, and BloodWorms. I find BWs to work best with Spots and Croakers.
My beagle tried to sniff and eat them too, so I had to make sure my tackle bag's out of reach.....but she'll find ways

I think I'll go with the EZ Shrimp type when I buy some.
On my next trip out, I'll take regular fresh shrimp.
No clarification on the color you were using. I'll have to do more research to
see which color works best in this area before I make a purchase.

Thanks da-fish.

Thrifty,

Mine was flesh and pink. I wasn't sure if the Fish'N Strips I got clearance at Walmart for $1.50 (a steal!) was worth it, it still worked well.
