Have they arrived in good numbers yet? Don't want to fork out $10 til they are there in decent numbers.
How about the fish....anything worth catching....skate excluded?

A pier employee is a buddy of mine and the reports so far are slim. A few blues have been caught on plugs and the occasional roundhead but that's about it.

Thanks. I'm trying to hang in there til crab activity is up a bit. Prefer to catch half a bushel or so at least.
Any size to the blues and roundhead?

He told me the roundheads have been a good size just few and far between. Not sure about the blues. If you're looking for crabs, I was catfishing in Smithfield last week and there was a guy there next to me on the pier who was bringing up some of the biggest blue crabs I've ever seen. Small pier in Windsor Castle Park in Smithfield.

He told me the roundheads have been a good size just few and far between. Not sure about the blues. If you're looking for crabs, I was catfishing in Smithfield last week and there was a guy there next to me on the pier who was bringing up some of the biggest blue crabs I've ever seen. I was there from 12P - 5P today, and we caught 1/2-dozen decent sized bluefish and had enough bites to make it interesting in between; saw several folks get more than that on their own, and I heard they got a bunch from 7A - 10A as well. Most caught on spoons, or jerk-jiggers, of which I had none, but I still managed to get enough to keep me busy on lead-heads and zoom-flukes ... as long as you could manage to work your way around double bottom rigs. FYI, in regards to bottom fishers, I saw exactly 2 puffers caught on bottom rigs in 5-hours, and several skates. That's it.

any significant changes in activity since then? It's going to be raining a couple days straight around mid week. Trying to get out there before that happens.
Looking for crabs, roundhead and croakers mainly. I have seen enough bluefish this season to last me a while.

Which bait suggestions for roundhead and croaker this time of year....squid and shrimp?

Those little buggers love small squid strips and fresh bloodworms or that fishbite bloodworms.
