Bought a 10` mh 1-6 oz spinning u-s and hated it. Way to heavey and ungainley. Could only muster 65yds w/ 2oz. Converted to 9` convertible by removing about 8 or 9 inches off tip section and second from tip guide. Cut off 3 inch butt section and glued it to 10 inch section of grey PVC reinforced with graphite rod inside. Turned / sanded PVC to a taper fit . Slides inside butt to extend for casting handle length and removes / replaces with rubber chair leg cap for use on piers / boat. Now 2 oz sails to 100yds with 20lb test. Great indestructable fighting rod for heavey fish but only functional as casting rod after mod. But oh what an inprovement!

Spline?

DB/FL F,

I have a "heavy" spinning rod that I was considering modifying as DB did for casting but I was afraid the guides would be on the wrong side from the spline. Maybe it doesn't make a difference on a really stiff rod?
