I have a Lamiglas 8'6" 386 HC 12-25# 1/2-1 3/4oz that fills the bill quite well for what your wanting... works well casting and when used with bait has excellent bite detection... I've got a ABU 5600ws on it spooled with 20# Power Pro... most excellent set up for working the wash and just outside...

How do you tell the tip speed of the rod, I know that the rod has lite
med or hev on the rod but is there a differance with the tips with each rod.
I guese what I'm asking is can you get a hev. rod whit a fast tip or are most of the off the shelf rods all the same based on there weight rating?

Most blank/rod manufactorers will rate them xfast, fast, medium, ect.

I don't trust them.

Go with what NS4D likes - a rod that has a firm tip and doesn't wiggle much when he shakes it.

I use a 8' St Croix Tidemaster with an ABU 6500 CS Mag and 15 lb mono. It'll handle 1/2 -2 oz and will smoke 1 oz metal if needed...
