Hi guys. Ya know, this forum would be a good advertisement for Tica products! I see lots of posts here about them.

So after reading many Tica related posts, I ended up buying a 7' model at TW's in the OBX.

I wanted to share a funny thing that happened.

I purchased the rod without trying out the Shimano 4000 and 6000 series reels I wished to use on it. When I got to my beach house, I found that the reels did not seat well at all to the rod.

It was so loose, I wanted to return the rod.

I went back to the store, and started looking again. I had my reels with me this time. Almost by accident, I picked up the same model Tica rod. And... the reels fit! 8(---) (I just love these new smilies!)

I went back to the counter where the old rod was and indeed the reel seats were very different on the same model rod.

Watch those reel seats and, (duh) carry your reel or fit one from the store to the rod before you leave.

I haven't tested the Tica myself. My dad needed something to fish with and I used that as an excuse to increase my own collection. I tossed it a few times and it seemed well enough, didn't catch anything on it myself.

Looks like it will make a good yellow-belly spot rod which is what I bought it for.

Pappy, nope it was definitely a manufacturing difference, not a defect.

How do you like the rod Dav, how do you like the Tica????
Saltshaker, I don't have the 7', but I do have the 8'(spin). The rod is a one-piece, like the 7. Its rated 1-3oz. It seems a little stout to me. I put a Shimano 4000 size reel on it. It does fine on the pier, and even the beach on light surf days. I've only caught small stuff on it, other than one citation-size skate. Overall, I think its well worth the price.

many of the rods on the market today that are made in foreign factories are not always made to specs. there maybe ten or fifteen different different brand names all made in the same factory. slipups will occur. a lot of rods may say graphite, but are only a few[very few] % graphite in them. i have two tica rods and i like them for what i bought them for, but they are not lamiglass, all star, st crouix, or ziplex.
