How long of a hike is it from the parking area? Looks like a killer area, seems there is about a 90 ft deep drop off not too far from casting distance. Is it a requirement that OSV is not allowed? I like the point @ CHSP, while there will be some trucks around and maybe a few swimmers it is rarely crowded especially after Sept 1. I park just past the radar tower and walk.
Is that section of beach patrolled? So as a follow up cause I had a similar question. Say the beach isn't lifeguarded as in a private development like the preserve in Bethany. Can u fish during the day then cause of no life guard?
Its a solid hike up to the point but you don't need to make it all the way there to find fish. I normally start ocean side and either walk to the point and back or do the full loop. I tend to do better ocean side but its not a hard and fast rule. Probably around a mile to the point from the oceanside walk-over path and a total of 2-3 mi if you do the full loop. Like I said you can find fish without walking nearly that far. I like to be pretty minimalist when I fish here and will fill a backpack with only what I think is essential. Generally I'll carry 1 rod, a handful of tins, a couple other plugs/lures and teasers, knife, pliers, water, snack, and not too much else. I don't fish bait often, but when I want to carry a bait cooler I'll park in the same place and just set up ocean side not far from the walk-over. Its a great spot during the fall mullet run, you'll see the baitfish v-wake style near the breaking waves. Nearly everyone here (as in with most of DE) fishes bait but I've done very well on lures. The area north of the walk-over is closed all summer until Sept. 1st for plovers but opens just in time for mullet to show up.How long of a hike is it from the parking area? OSV is OK. Just can't get past the OSV pass cost to only fish it 2 or 3 times a year.
Carrying a bunch of gear over sand dunes doesn't work for me anymore.
I plan to hit DE 17-18 as of now....should be right on time for the mullet. Gimme a shout. Its a solid hike up to the point but you don't need to make it all the way there to find fish. If fishing the river area at Plum Island, make sure you wear tall boots or waders - lots of muck over there.http://www.delaware-surf-fishing.com/target-your-fish/beach-plum-island/
Park in small lot before entering 4wd area and walk to either side of the parking lot. One side is the Bay; other, the River. Both a short walk. Bring bug spray of choice.
Also, before turning right at the stop sign, go straight across, park and walk over to surf fish the Bay. Been awhile for me, so not sure if little store is still there at stop sign, or if parking is still available at the walk over.
Bethany Beach rules say "no fishing during lifeguard hours" and that the rule is enforced by Beach Patrol, so the way that I read that, if it's within the corp limits of Bethany Beach, and during lifeguard hours in an area that's patrolled, that would be against the rules... you could always try it and plead ignoranceNo lifeguards during the day. So can you fish during the day legally if there are no lofeguards
