Went down to Sunset Beach over the weekend. Fished the bridge there before the rain came. Friday night between 9 and 11 I got into a strong black drum run. I caught over 20 black drum, most around the two pound size. There were a few larger three and four pounders mixed in. I didn’t catch any of the small spot-size drum I saw on the piers this fall. I left when I tired of catching them, but when I went back in the morning they were gone. I didn’t get a single hit in daylight.

All of the drum were caught close to the pilings on a two-hook bottom rig. Most went for cut shrimp, but I foul hooked a clam and used it for bait to catch one fish. The bridge has always been a good cold water spot because the pinfish are gone and it seems to hold fish late into the year. The black drum especially seem to be year-round residents.
