Nice one. Was there enough action with just the float or were you working it? Shad darts are heavy...
Different actions as you call it. Sometimes no actions at all. Jerry's darts are not heavy. I would never use a lure that pulls the bobber under. Just try different SLOW retrieves until you find the best one. Never fast, all very slow retrieves with a jiggle Jiggle here and a jiggle jiggle there, Old Mc Donald had a farm. ;)

Thanks Jerry. You could cat a fish in a puddle Andy, best of luck
There used to be a man called Tom Henge? that used to post here, you two have the bobber/float lure thing figured out, doing much the same.
Must be a northern thing:)
It's really called "Fly&Float" it has been around the fishing world for ever. It is also a great way to catch large bluegills. Just change the dart or tube bait to a little bluegill surface popper. Now that is fun with light line rod and reel.

Ay Salta I haven't seen darts as big as the ones you talking about but many years ago I came across some plain dart heads that held a 2in twister perfect. Very light tho for 2years it was my favorite stream jig lure . I caught many smallmouth and trout on them. I forget where I got them but pretty sure ma and pa tackle shop somewhere so definitely homemade. If anyone has a chance in clear water 1 day jig a dart where you can see it then jig a round jig head the same way and see the difference.

Jerry, why dose it have to be a large shad dart? Wouldn't the right size your looking for in a bucktail type work just as good. But I know how fisherman are. If they have confidence in a lure there is no lure better. Confidence is what it's all about anyway. So many ways. A 1/8th or 1/4 OZ. ball head jig with a 3 or 4" Twister works for me.

I've poured some lead darts 1/4 oz & heavier. I have the Do It mold that Jerry is mentioning. Not weights I would generally us for panfishing or under a float, more for casting or light trolling. Work great for schoolie size Stripers in the rivers & I've caught some large perch on them too. Tinned O'Shaughnessy style hooks will fit the mold in some sizes. but there are Aberdeen hooks being made now too that are plenty strong and are popular with the Steelhead folks. The dart style "darts" so has some built in action to it. Sure other jig head style catch fish too, but why not take advantage of the design if you have it?

If you know what you're doing with making them, and Jerry certainly does, the weights & hook sizes can be varied to fit most any situation. I think I also have an old Hilts mold that makes 1/10 oz lead darts, which are nice for panfishing under a float. :)
