Hey guys,
I'm taking the wife and daughter down to SPSP Saturday and had a couple of questions....and no, one them is not where exactly should I throw my line in, lol. I was there many years ago but not to fish. I plan on hitting the "northern jetties area". We make pretty regular trips to Buxton/Hatteras so that's the kind of fishing we're used to. Nothing like seeing my 4'6" ten year old casting a 10' rod in the surf on the point and throwing as far as a lot of the guys out there, she sure gets the looks. :) I plan on grabbing some BW's on the way down and tying up a few double dropper rigs for whatever may decide to bite them. We may try to use some Gulp shrimp on jig heads off the rocks, anyone tried popping corks? Would it be worth my time to throw the old standard Fishfinder/Hatteras rig with some cut bait or would I be wasting my time? Ok, last questions I promise. Is it better to fish the incoming or outgoing tide down there and north side or south side of the jetties? I guess that last part may depend on which way the tides going. Sorry for all the questions, I'd just like the girls to catch "something". I figured if I have a few different game plans to try one of them might work. Thanks!

I wish I'm at Buxton right now for some Sea Mullets because SPSP is real slow right now and I mean SLOW.

The fishing techniques and rigs you used at Buxton/Hatteras areas will not be needed at SPSP. Simple hi/lo rig is good enough. The only thing that will be productive is BW . I was there on Saturday and casted all over the place with few released tiny WP to show for it. If you throw some cut bait (although if you can pick up some peeler crabs, there may be a stray striped one milling around. You'll never know though. I'll go with that rather than cutbait), you may get into some cownose ray.

Right now, try to fish only the incoming tide. The outgoing will get you lettuce and I'm talking about some big leafy ones.

As far as north side or south side jetties, I don't think it matters. Right now, the park has put up a fence that seperates the swimming and fishing section. So, just pick a spot in the fishing section and enjoy.

Sounds like you're daughter will do fine out there because distance will definately help big time fishing at SPSP.
