It’s hit or miss. I have friends that go the 2 Nd week of October every year to the Atlantic beach area but there in boats. We go the third sometimes 4th weekend in October to kure beach pier. Last year they were running and the group caught a lot. The three previous years it was very slow. Just have to get lucky on the run.
Will be at the coast in October- what pier is food to catch some spots?

Kure FB page showed them to be there this past weekend, supposedly a few here and there. People lose their minds over spots on that pier.

I've been the past two weekends and the spot bite is HOT off Surf City Pier in Topsail. They are only biting bloodworms, and only at night, but the run both weekends reminded me of 30 years ago it was so heavy. I was pulling them in two at the time. Easily filled a cooler, also caught good Pompano and Virginia Mullet off fresh LOCAL shrimp. The fish can taste the difference when the shrimp is from Argentina...

The Topsail area is the hottest place in North Carolina for spot, fun to catch (little guys have some fight), and they are so good to eat.

Spot run was HOT off Surf City Pier again this weekend. Wife and I caught 40 spot, brother-in-law caught 21, they were biting bloodworms and fishbites and were biting all day and night. These were nice sized spot as well, perfect for the fryer.
