Looking for a new surf Spinning rod for tossing metal - Spanish, Blues, etc. BPS Ocean Master Surf Rod - 9', 1-3oz Spinning is on sale for $120. Is there a better rod for $120? (I'm not looking to start a spinning vs casting debate.) Thanks.
All my spanish rods are either custom or are no longer made all of which cost a lot more than the $120 your asking for comparison...If i was looking for a factory rod i would look at one of the century sling shots but thats just me.Thanks for the suggestions guys. Leaning towards the St Croix ($140 and free shipping w/amazon prime).
As many opinions that are on this board I thought this would get more response.
lemme know where you're finding that slingshot for $120 haha. I just picked up a 10' stealth myself. All my spanish rods are either custom or are no longer made all of which cost a lot more than the $120 your asking for comparison...If i was looking for a factory rod i would look at one of the century sling shots but thats just me.
You won't but he wanted opinions.. I don't know how any of the rods in his range would be lol...lemme know where you're finding that slingshot for $120 haha. I just picked up a 10' stealth myself.
my main go-to rods up until i got this century were the 9' star and a 10' triumph. they both worked great, i just wanted something that would match my vs150 in 10' a bit better. the star handled a 42" striper in the surf fine. You won't but he wanted opinions.. Try a 9' St. Croix legend. Throws 3/4 - 4 oz. Works like a charm. Only draw back is the 70-30 split.my main go-to rods up until i got this century were the 9' star and a 10' triumph. they both worked great, i just wanted something that would match my vs150 in 10' a bit better. the star handled a 42" striper in the surf fine.
I used my buddy's 10'6 new legend and wasn't that crazy about it, felt heavyish too. I had a 9' mojo 1-4, worst rod I've ever owned.Try a 9' St. Croix legend. Throws 3/4 - 4 oz. Works like a charm. Only draw back is the 70-30 split.

yup. wasn't crazy about it. I don't really like rods over 10' regardless though. He did the trade-in/trade-up deal that St. Croix offers.is that the legend with the torzite guides?

Which is why I said you should try a 9'. I specifically picked up the 3/4 - 4oz rated. Been using it since last year. It's paired with a 4K conflict. Total weight 25 oz and balanced. Your more than welcome to come try it out April 10th.I used my buddy's 10'6 new legend and wasn't that crazy about it, felt heavyish too. I had a 9' mojo 1-4, worst rod I've ever owned.
Hey mastrbaitr you get decent distance with that setup? Im looking for a new metal slinger myself..Which is why I said you should try a 9'. I specifically picked up the 3/4 - 4oz rated. Distance is relative to the caster and I do okay. The rod itself is very sensitive. Bite detection is amazing. The sweet spot on it is 3 oz but I've thrown 3/4 - 4 oz to test it out. Works great with even 1 oz. I picked it up to replace my 8' and 10' prevails. If you need one for to take everywhere with you on the eastern shore this would be it. Specific reason why I shelled out the $$ for it. One rod for jetty, surf or pier. Works great at catching bait and has hauled in 36"+ rock last year for a 20lbs rated rod. Like Dave said above, the mojos are trash. I've heard and said this before but rods in the $200 range are all the same imo.....heavy overweight rods with huge guide for people slapping on 50+ lbs braid or mono. Perfect setups to loose distance. The conflict is spooled with 15 lbs braid with a top shot of 50lb shock leader. To give you an idea how much the total setup weighs, it's slightly less than the weight of a 6k battle.Hey mastrbaitr you get decent distance with that setup? thanks man, really looking for a reel wasn't sure what size to get 4k/5k im just gonna use it for the three times a year the conditions are good for Spanish in va beach ha ha. Not going on high end for the rod, I just bought me a CTS 1306 so im kinda on rod buying restriction right now(wife). Thanks for the input......geoDistance is relative to the caster and I do okay. Appreciate the offer. By then I will most likely be fishing the DE shore. SPSP is a march thing mostly for me. Another rod I want to play with are the new ODM's.
