Does anybody know which blank the straight 8 is based on. I've had one for several years, its a wonderful rod, probably my favorite for fighting and landing large fish from the surf. I was wondering if it was based on an existing zziplex blank or if it was developed from scratch for hatteras style fishing??

Tommy, The Straight 8 was designed by Ron Sutton at USA Surf Fishing. You can reach his site at www.ronsutton.org
The Straight 8 is also my favorite for big fish in the surf. It makes catch and release much easier.

Tommy, Cracker Bob is correct in what he said, I told Terry what I was looking for in a rod and the finished rod was the 4th proto type that he built. Big Lou has said that it was the most versatile rod he had ever used. The true range of the rod is 4--8 oz.'s and it has reached 270 yds. on the grass in testing by Zziplex.
