Looking to target Spanish mackerel from pier June 11-18. Usually fish jennettes pier Anyone ever tried shinano waxwings? Best location on pier for Spanish or big Spanish? Any pier more productive for Spanish? Any tips are much appreciated. Just looking for an edge. Also got some atom poppers and halco. Just wondering. I love gotchas but love new ways of catching fish as well. Tight lines guys

I got many Spanish from Jennette's last Aug. it was mostly an early morning bite towards the end of the pier. I ditched my 20lb Fluoro leader and used 50lb mono leader. I only used Gotchas. I think I lost many fish close to the pier because I was using braid and the last minute head shakes threw the plug. This year I will have a 12lb test mono set up.

We caught a few Spanish from Avalon Pier last week. Not as many as we had hoped for due to the end of the pier being closed for repair. The end particularly the south corner is normally the most productive spot. The most productive lure was a chrome/red Gotcha. If you want to try a different lure check out the Hex Heads Jigs. They have a better action than a Gotcha and only one hook.

Here is what Saturday's Spanish bite produced Bad350 caught most of them...

Dish Food Cuisine Fish and chips Fried food

At three o'clock Parmesan crusted bluefish, 1 o'clock lightly breaded in Atkinsons Seafood Breader, ten o'clock Parmesan crusted Spanish Mack. Home made tarter sauce, homemade Cole slaw. Sweet potato fries, seasoned fries.
(Yes I like Bluefish from time to time)
Last night
Dish Food Cuisine Ingredient Fried food

Parmesan, pecan crusted Spanish Mackerel, nine and three o'clock. Twelve o'clock is just a regular breaded filet. My slammin home made cole slaw, and home made tarter sauce.

On this one
Crust contained crushed up corn flakes, Parmesan cheese and crushed pecans

That's awesome thanks for the tips guys. I've heard awesome reviews of shinano wax wings, but was wondering if it was hype. After watching some YouTube videos and seeing it's action in the water, determined if I was going to buy it. It looks deadly for blues and Spanish. Just never seen anyone fish with it. Why fix what ain't broken but I like fishing with something no one has. It can pay off I guess. Thanks for the comments. Looking forward to our trip this week

Both are real simple

With Italian flavored bread crumbs and Parmesan cheese do a 1/4 cup to a 1/4 cup, pretty much a 50/50 mixture.

Same goes for the crushed Corn Flake method add crushed pecans to your taste.

Hey I'm Italian we really don't measure anything

Roll in your favorite seafood Breader coat really well . Then through an egg wash.
Then roll in the above mentioned mixtures. Fry 350 to 375 until it just starts to float and is golden brown.

any other lures that can be used from a pier to target spanish
Straw rigs probably catch 90%+ of SCs pier Spanish. All variety of spoons. Even 3-4" shiny trout soft plastics fished fast will catch one or two before they rip it up. They'll eat anything that looks like a little baitfish. The little ones around 12-18" usually are gorging on the 2" silversides...they spit them up on the planks or you see them when you clean them. Bigger ones usually come on Gotchas...they seem to be after the bigger 4" anchovies and a Gotcha is the perfect size.
