I normally do bring one. Never really thrown it off the Jetty though because I'm scared it will get hung in the rocks. I plan to buy some mud minnows and fiddler crabs. Last year in late May, the jetty was full of Menhaden. If I did catch these in a cast net, what would they be good for, and how would you rig them?

Right now I have 5 rods rigged: Carolina Rig for flounder, gulp jig head, gotcha plug, and metals.

I will be heading that way tomorrow morning.

You can use the menhaden as cut bait. Put chunks, strips, or just the head on a fish finder rig. Cast out near very end of jetty where fish wait for the food to be washed out to them. The times when this method worked the best was when Blues were feeding heavily near the jetty already and the waters were chummed up with pieces of the half eaten meals of the blues. I have had the best luck there just as tide turns from incoming to got back out. Good luck and let us know how you do out there.

Didn't have the best day today. Storms came in around 2:00 and cleared out the beach. I caught a few small sand sharks and smaller sea bass off mud minnows. After lunch, when the tide started coming back in, I did get into some blues and lady fish on a gotcha plug. I only landed 4 blues, but lost a couple reeling them in. One cast, I actually had 2 blues hooked on the same gotcha plug. The one on the front hook fell off when lifting them up on the jetty, but this was a first to me. Man did they pull hard... I would like to get back to the jetty a couple more times this week, but tomorrow i'll probably head to one of the piers.

I catch red drum, sharks, rays, and blue fish off of spot, croaker, whiting, or menhaden heads/chunks. I use 3-5oz sinkers to hold the bottom but light enough to let the tide going out take my bait further than I could ever cast it. I use spinner set ups with the drag set light enough to let the current slowly drag the bait out or one of my live liner spinning set ups with the secondary drag set up to allow the bait to drift out. Most of my hook ups are at or past the big channel marker poles off the tip of the jetty.

Everything that will hit mullet will hit menhaden as well. Menhaden is oilier than mullet, but will require more careful hooking. This time of the year menhaden may be the main forage. How big were the blues you landed?

The blue were pretty nice sized. I plan to go back tomorrow. Are there any good techniques or areas to pick up flounder or trout in the area?

This may be outdated, but I don't mind giving direct info since my SC fishing days are over except on holidays/when I am home

On the south jetty where there is a bend along the rocks, there is usually an eddy in the water. Cast a carolina rig with live mullet and slowly work it back in. The area can be snaggy, but also rewarding. Another good area is towards the inside of the inlet where two poles stand in the water (may or may not be there anymore). Use the same rig at high tide. Anywhere along the jetty can be hot for flounder, but these would be my go-to spots. I recommend casting your rig out and slowly working it in.

The jetty is also great for sheepshead based on my observations of others catching them. How to successfully target sheeps is beyond my area of knowledge.
