Solomons Island Report - 5/19/2016

I'm usually a surf person but my last trip to AI was a traumatizing skunk. My best friend who lived that skunk with me decided it was about time we upgraded to a boat. He just picked up a brand new 2016 24' Sea Hunt center console and we launched off of Solomons Thursday morning. It was chilly and overcast in the morning but then the winds calmed and sun came out and it was absolutely gorgeous out there. We didn't know of any good spots around Solomons so we relied on the fish finder for navigation. We heard that there was good jigging action going on so we jigged for a little bit but no bites. We then trolled for a few hours and went up and down the bay but also no bites. After many hours and no bites, we decided to call it a day.

We started reeling in our line and putting up the rods but the last rod was heavy. Apparently this 30" rock was on it for a while but we never noticed. This got us excited so trolled the area for a few more hours but no more bites. On our way out, we met another gentleman who said he landed 12 on jigs, 2 keepers. Great day overall though.

Best trolling action is on early in the morning about 6am to 9am. Jig and drift deep drop off after 9am. Try early trolling you might limit out in few hours of fishing.
