When the blues are in town and hitting metal far out, what type of rod and reel setup do you use? I'm looking into building a conventional rod this Winter for catching those fish far out.

Any recommendations for a rod/reel (conventional only) setup? I intend on casting 1-4 ounce metal - Stingsilvers, Crippled Herrings, Krok-L-Dyles, etc...

Flea...

I know you have a metal-slinging setup. You have a Penn 525 Mag - correct? How do you like it? What type of rod do you use? I'm looking into the Lamiglas or All Star rod blanks...

sandcrab you might want to look at the allstar 1565 its 13 ft long and rated for 1-4 with 2-3 being the sweet spot and it'll cast metals out of sight.ask longranger he's seen it.

1565 That's one metal slinging rod.
I'm on a budget so I use a Diawa Sealine-X 10 footer for those duties.

I use a Star Nicklelite rated 4-8oz but really is a 2-6oz.Matched up with a Abu 6500c3. Loved it for casting but didn't know how well it would handle a bigger fish. Found out Sat with 2 nice stripers in 30 min. :D

SandCrab,
I like the Penn International Vengeance for 2 and 3 ounces (it’s rated up to 4oz.). But, I use a Zziplex Power-tex Bass for 4 ounces. Both rods are very smooth and send a sinker long way in the right conditions. I also like Mark’s Breakaway just don’t happen to own one.
