every year in october-november when my wife and i go on our yearly drum fishing vacation we catch a lot of skates in between fish.
over the years i have learned that surf that is full of skates also holds plenty of drum in the 40-50 lb. class during that time of year.
so catching skates sort of became part of the quest.
dont get me wrong, i kind of like catching them, especially when the big fish aren't biting. skates although slow deliberate fighters pull hard for their size.and i always release them unharmed.
my question is this.can you keep any to eat? i have heard that they are good to eat but i dont know if it is legal to keep any or how to clean them.
