I have a couple spools of 40# fluorocarbon leader for shockleader.
What # braid would go best with that on my reels?(spinning)
I usually have 20-30# KastKing braid.
Normally ill throw 5 oz sinkers with cut bait fishing for stripers.

One more thing... I use the fg knot to tie my shockleaders. I want to know if any other knot will go through my guides better. I know alot of people use the albright knot
Thanks for any help/advice!

If your only casting 5 ounces or less 40# should be ok ... I'd prefer using monofilament over flourocarbon, but if that's what you want to run, then go for it. I don't think you can get any better than the FG knot going through the guides and the overall strength of the knot compared to the Albright

Floro loses it's "invisibilty" after it has been stressed
Really? I did not know that. What do you mean by stressed? Casted a bunch? Caught fish on it? scrapped up by sand, rocks etc?

This being said I will usually use mono as a shock leader because it is cheaper for a shock leader. I will tie my rigs with floro, or use it as a "bite leader" when fishing braid.

As for knots I love the FG. Easy to tie and works well. I tie it into a spider hitch or BT

Floro loses it's "invisibilty" after it has been stressed ,that is interesting. I know that there is floro that has a "coating"over the top of the mono . Then there is the 100% floro don't know the if that makes a difference?

I bought one mini spool of 30lb Ande Flouro leader. I learned that i hate flouro for the same reason John81 mentioned, and it ties sh!t knots IMO

The FG knot seems to highly rated on here. Any suggestions for online instructions on tying it? I have trouble getting my boots tied let alone the Fg knot. Have looked at youtube, everyone seems to have an opinion as to how.

When a mono shock leader is stressed during the cast, it can absorb that stress by stretching. Following that stretch comes a recovery, and that is why mono makes a great shock leader material. It is called elasticity. Now flouro has plasticity. It also stretches, but doesn't recover anywhere near as well. It tends to remain stretched and thus weaker. The material flows as it stretches and leaves a line that is thinner here or there, not equally along it's length. A shock leader gets stressed over and over, and to differing degrees based on who is casting what. If the caster is stretching their flouro, they are weakening it, no way around that. They would be far better off using a mono leader.

You said you use 40lb test, so you might not be stressing it hard enough to realize a stretch. Just something to be aware of.

This is what I have found: Mono shock is great, especially when it is ran through the guides during a cast.. Flouro will tend to be stiff, which makes it not as good for this application.. So,I use reg 50lb mono for a sock line when casting and needing it to put a fish in the net off a pier,or add pressure to get it through breakers on the beach.. Flouro comes in handy when you are tying a length of it at the end of braid to attach a lure or jig to.. Feel as though the flouro has much better abrasion resistance.. You can catch multiple drum, cobia, tarpon, permit,or bonefish without having to retie.. Mono is just OK for this,as it tends to get "coily" as well as "frapped up" after you catch a couple of fish.. The flouro seems to stand up better.. Along with that I like a "tip leader" for lures and jigs to be somewhat stiff, thinking it makes the bucktail or lure work better.. All that could just be in my head, although when it comes to fishing there are things that add to the confidence factor and this is one for me when it comes to sight casting...
