If you feel like you need 100 to cast, then take the 50,tie to 17,then attach whatever length of 100 to the 50 with a double nail or double uni.. I personally tie a 3 turn spider, though testing have found it to be better than more turns.. Also the no-name using three turns on it as well.. To each his own I guess,BUT you will find straight 100lb test to be VERY UNFREINDLY to 17....It was what I had. I got some 50/60/80# Ande this weekend. I will try it and see. I will get better pics of before and after also
This is what I do 4-5 turnsWhen I get my knot just in front of the spool. I do four full handle revolutions on my reel. As the line is threaded through the guides.
I snip my shock line at the first guide that is in front of the reel. When I cast I want the knot(s) laying all the way to the right of the spool. As my thumb covers the left hand side of the spool at the beginning of my cast.
Throwing 8-10oz on a heaver, 30# makes a great sound when it pops after you hit itmaybe he's shark fishing.....I use a 30lb leader for 14lb main...
Not sure who started the 10#test per ounce of lead thing heard that before buncha bs, most of the people I fish with use 50#, ive been using 50 for many years never had an issue, I always have fresh shock leader on my reels for each trip though.........geoI was told and read 10#test/1oz lead. Again, learn something new all the time
Well,if you need 100,you cast harder than ANYONE I have seen on the planks OR the beach in over 40yrs of fishing.. A few folks I know do use 60,but never above that, and that is up to 12nbait! I generally tie a 3ft piece of 80 with double nail to a normal 50lb shock attached to 17lb running line.. The reason is so as not to break next to the sinker, which is where 90% of breakoffs happen.. I do check it for chaffs or "smoked up" line in the 80 before every cast, but can get many more cast out of it.. Also with the 50 you attain a MUCH smaller knot and it goes through the guides well.. Another advantage to the length of 80 is it makes a great handle to bring in a fish on the beach.. It is up to you,but if you are sharking there is no need to use that much 100 on a casted reel, especially if it is going through the guides..I was told and read 10#test/1oz lead. Drumdum, I know a couple people who tie some 80# to their shock as you do for better strength at the terminal end, just last year I started using 60# shock for that reason but might try the 3ft of 80, how many wraps for the nail are you using???Well,if you need 100,you cast harder than ANYONE I have seen on the planks OR the beach in over 40yrs of fishing..
