Hey all, was curious if any of you are familiar with this reel and how it performs for the price. They're normally $59.99 but on sale at BPS for $39.97, at that price I would pick up a couple of em for everyday general purpose fishing. It is Shimano's "economy" version reel, I have a higher end Shimano that I love but was curious how the economy one holds up. Thanks.

I have a 4k sedona. It's a good reel for the price and I've had it for a while. It's my general purpose pier and inlet reel. Caught everything from 4ft sharks, rays, flounder, trout and whatever other trash fish I can't remember.

Not a bad reel, especially on sale at a substantially reduced price. I don't see how you could go wrong paying forty bucks. If you are fishing salt water just keep them out of the sand and rinse them off well as soon as you come off the water.

If you're into taking reels apart and doing maintenance, I would just caution you that the varispeed oscillation system in the sedona makes it a pain in the butt to put back together, especially in the smaller size reels (I have a 1000). You have to get the gears PERFECTLY aligned...otherwise they'll bind.

Yeah, I agree with that. Shimanos are a pain to take apart. I love the smoothness of them though. The easiest reels to service IMO were the penn ss series.

I have taken my sedona apart. It's not hard. Although I don't find any reel hard to take apart. They are quite simple devices.
.....fished with a fellow down Topsail way....he used 3-4 Sedona's to PLUG WITH......SPANISH AND BLUES...OCASSIONAL FOOT-BALL....lizards and all the rest...anything that would hit a GOTCHA OR A DIAMOND JIG....he/d get 4-5 yrs out of one of them....and he could fix them too....
ANYHOO....he never fished anything else TIL THE SEDONA'S WENT PAST $50 BUCKS......AND NOW HE IS TRYING TO MAKE sweep-fires work...(DIAWA)
I offered to buy him a penn....he wouldn't hear it....WASTE MONEY on a penn when he could find Sedona's in the TRASH CAN AFTER A BUSY DAY ON THE PIER.....
