How do you catch sheepshead using a cane pole or other methods? I know pll use fiddler crabs. i tried fishing for sheeshead this morning using a jighead and shrimp dropped striaght down, but ended up catching a barely underslot red drum and a puffer!
They are very very very light biters. If you kept losing your bait, it was probably sheepshead. They'll eat fresh shrimp but so does everything else. Fiddlers or even sand fleas work well.
Get next to a pylon, use a short Carolina rig with a 1/0 or so small sharp but heavy hook. Everyone uses a different hook. I like Gamakatsu Octopus hooks in 1/0.
If you can see them, then drop your bait to where they are. To see the bite, hold your line, watch your tip barely lift from the weight of the egg sinker lifting as he bites, or every 30 seconds or so lift your tip 3-6 inches and if you feel dead weight, set the hook.
