Has anyone ever had success there over the years? I fished there one time two years ago and didn't catch anything, it was during the middle of the day and when nightfall came I left just in time because during my walk to my car I was swamped by mosquitos. It was like something out of the movies I had never seen so many mosquitos it was eerie. So does anyone recommend a second trip back and if you do what is the best times and bait to use.

No need to fish there day time...there are nothing there but the skates. If you want to fish Sandy point, go there 2 hour before sunset and if you have to find yourself during incoming tide then you are in business... and speaking of them little pesky critters,,I worked in Minneapolis last year, mosquitos up there was really bad! I mean after you smack the hell out of them for sucking your blood it would turn around and ask you "Why da hell did you do that for" ? That's how bad it was... :D

Couldn't disagree more strongly. I've done very well over the past couple of years at SPSP during daylight hours, particularly on Blues but also have brought in several nice stripers. It's a very rare day, once the Blues are in, that I don't leave SPSP with several fish destined for the smoker.

I'll give you a hot tip! Fish SPSP jetties before the sun comes up and wait for the fish to come to you at first light. Use a 1 oz Stingliver with a white bucktail teaser tied 18" above the lure and watch out stripers! ;) Sometimes two at a time!

Summer skates are a lot of fun even on 20 lb test tackle. Last year I had one go almost 70 lbs! It tore up all the rods near me and took three of us to pull it in! One fish and I was shot for the day! ;)

Catch the blues when they are running and you can fill a cooler up. Nothing like smoked blues like Rugger said.

I have taken some nice trout (up to 5 lbs) in the early am on cut bait (croaker or spot).

And you will always meet someone from P$S there. :)

Give it a shot while it's only a buck to get in!

I was refering to summertime...I would never fish there because of rush of people dying to get their feet wet...I always fish bend next to restroom in front of two tree and I do pretty well there late summer..but like I said before I would not fish there when SPSP is loaded with weekend goers and swimmers..you are asking for it..plus they keep changing hours everytime I go there. I also fish at meatapeake alot..and do pretty okay there..
Right now you can catch bunch of stripers there using bloodworms but be very careful!
If you are thinking abut keeping them stripers... game warden is always on watch there... I am tired of C&R stripers...
Bring on the season.. :D

Bluefish,

One thing I learned about SPSP is that no swimmers are allowed in the fishing section. If they harrass you, call SPSP police and they will escort them into the swimming area with the other 5 thousand swimmers.

They like to use our beach because the swimming beach gets too crowded. Wrong answer!
