Okay all, I need your help with this decision! Here is were I stand. I haven't used a conventional reel and I want to know what would be best for me. I want a rod that has great casting distance. Does it matter if you get a casting rod or spinning rod? I will have to use a spinning reel. So I guess what I'm asking is, can I get a casting rod (Ocean Master) and use a spinning reel (something like the Emblem Pro)? What are yall suggestions?

Please give me some insight all! Getting things together for the drum run. Also I could use some tips on the best line and knots to use.

Thanks

A conventional-built rod is going to have a smaller stripper guide than a spinning-built rod, and that will decrease your casting distance. If you are using a spinning reel, buy a rod that is built for spinning. OM has a whole line of spinning models.
