im an avid fisherman up north and go to florida every year for a weeks vacation in the Destin area. planning on retiring in a year and moving south. What are your suggestions for a surf rod for throwing 2-4 ounces of lead for bottom fishing ? Should i get something heavier to throw more weight or is it usually to rough and not worth the time fishing if 5-8 ounces are needed to stay put ? Dont mind paying money for a good rod i am looking for suggestions on what weight and make/lenght i should get? Any input appreciated.

Stingray Fishing Outfitters may be able to give some advise. Although they are on the east coast (Jupiter), they ship and may have a part of the knowledge you are seeking. Ask to speak to Ray. Their price on a 14' surf rod is very reasonable.

I have a couple CCP rods and they are great. 11' 2-5 is one of my favorites for FL pompano/whiting. I would also recommend FSA (Florida Surf Angler) rods. I have some of them too! The 13' surf 3-6 is also one of my favorites for Pomps and Whiting, paired with Akios 657. The "big Un' is an excellent shark/big red rig.

Good luck and happy fishing

Thanks for the kind s words guys!!

The CPS 13' 3-6 is my number one selling rod and the Florida pompano fishermen are the reason why. It is light for a 13 footer, has plenty of power in the butt and midsection for super long casts and has the most amazing tip for bite detection. try it... :)

My wife I just came back from Sebastian Inlet from a weekend of fishing and the 11ft 2-5 that I have was catching pompano when everybody else on the beach was watching us bowed up.

When I cast that thing it amazes me the distance that I can cast 3 ounces and how easy it is.

I had the 3-6 13ft I think I was over throwing with it. I can throw pretty good but I have never come close to maxing out the distance with the 3-6.

It kind of cool to take that little 2-5 with a 6500 Abu C3 on it and launch a bomb and here a guy standing behind you say Holy Shi*.

You gotta reach um if your going to bank um.

Tommy I need 3 more of those 3-6s.
