Had to make yet another journey to Ye Olde Pier 2day in search of those elusive Spanish Mackeral. Arrived at slack tide and fished 'til 6:30pm, leaving while the tide was still truckin'. The water was a little clearer still then 2 days ago, and the wind was SSW at 5-10. I saw some real good lookin' Spanish jumpin' and there was a lot of chatter about the Cobia being caught right there of the Rockpile..... 1 was 99.5 lbs., so the story goes. Anyway, I was up to my usual Floundering around, scoring 11 throwbacks 12" to 16". All hit naked minnows. Also caught some Threadfin on my Sabiki set-up until Mr. Ray decided to have at it with my jig, and left me with a stand-by that didn't cut the mustard. OH WELL!!!! I had 1 mystery run on the live rig and no other takers. Saw no Spanish caught but some Blues as I was leaving. Overall, the bite for every species was a little off compared to my last few visits. The water seemed right, I just didn't get in the groove. Oh well, I hope the Spadefish onslaught 2morrow will remedy my woe's of 2day. Headin' out EARLY to scare some fish. See ya on the water.
