cheated and went on a boat this weekend, but to benefit the american cancer society, at the madeira beach tournament. on the water about 7 saturday morning and fishing shortly before 8. trying to catch some trout and the honey hole not producing. finally got a keeper on shrimp under a cork around 1030. switched to a jig to try and get a flounder to weigh in. caught one a little later half a scale longer than the minimum. threw it back. my buddy landed a trout pushing 21 inches at about 1230, with shrimp down on the bottom. we caught a bunch of other fish not worth mentioning throughout the day. went to the marina for the weigh in just before 5 and found out we were in second for the trout. plus, only 2 keeper flounder weighed at that point, 10 minutes before closing time. a big trout came in and we dropped to third. third in trout netted us $100. and with only two flounder weighed, the little keeper i let go, would have taken home another $100. dissapointed that the offshore guys didn't bring in any big kings. about 16 pounds. some nice grouper and aj's to 30. a good day on the water, and enough prize money to cover gas, entry fee and a few celebratory beers. everyone we spoke with complained about the wind and tough fishing. but on the day it mattered, we had some success. had planned to hit the skyway pier today for some spanish, but played it lazy and watched football instead.
