I'm looking for a reel to put on my new loomis sur 1023. At the moment i'm thinking a stradic 4000 FH. Any other opinions.

Instead of the 4000, go with the 5000. They are the same reel, but the 5000 has a deeper spool and more line capacity. Check the Shimano Website, the Stradic FH 5000 is listed slightly lighter than the Stradic 4000 FH.

Currently, I'm using a Stradic 2500 FH and it has performed flawlessly. A big improvement over previous versions of the Stradic.

That is what I have on mine and what Salty had on his when I meet him. I think it is on the Greenwater but I'm not sure.

I went ahead and ordered the 4000Fh. Hopefully it will be here soon.
