What are u guys using? Size and style..... I always use Eagle Claw circular sea 12/0 or Team Catfish 12/0 for cut bait. They are thick and sharp. Never had one break on a heavy cat or snag. I use gamakatsu 9/0 octopus hooks for eels and live bait with crimps and a big loop instead of a snell. They are thinner hooks, more prone to snap, but smaller hole in live bait as not to kill it..... And way sharper. Are these too big for drum fishing? I always need a reason to buy more gear. I have these hooks rigged and stockpiled currently because this is what I use for blue cats. Same exact drum rig that has been discussed on here thoroughly. I'm heading down to rock next week. So excited for the opportunity to dump some spools and a chance to tug on something besides bowfin and catfish.

I caught a hammer pup on a team catfish 12/0 last year. Clear head, bout 1.5ft long. Caught alot of sharpnose 2-4ft on them to, and lost a 7ft class spinner due to leader failure. I alternate between those and eagle claw circle sea 7/0s for circles.

So...... Not too big? How does a drum hit? Do they slow gulp...clicker is useless? Or do they hammer big baits with lots of hook exposed? I've watched a ton of vids of guys (some of you rock stars included) holding their rod and doing the conga. The bites always look a little subtle. Not saying they don't bulldog once hooked. But do they hammer with commitment right of the bat? Or is more of a feel thing and winding tight on em? I don't wanna Rambo and get too big.

Sometimes they pull ya down hard, sometimes they pick it up and swim at ya. Sometimes esp in the summer when they are on crabs or sand dollars you barely feel your sinker move. Sometimes you get a splash bite , sometimes they hit when you are relling in.

I'm starting to understand the infatuation more than ever...... Delicious......finicky.....regulated......drag peeelers. Juices are flowing. Can't wait to get down there. Sounds like striper or catfishing cut bait. 8 -12 hook. I'm ready........practiced up and ready

I'm not a circle user for big drum.. A 10/0 gami j octopus hook has served me fine as well as 9/0 j octopus style mustad for MANY YEARS..

Having said all this I DO USE circles for pups and yearlings.. Generally a 4/0 eagle claw.. Over on the other side of the sound it is mandatory for them to use circles and MANY of them use the eagle claw...

Sense c-hooks got popular I have used 13/0 mustad circles with bait for drum and have found no reason to change. Eels and stripers in the day I used a lighter hook. Everyone has their favorite and if you like your hook stick with it. best - glenn
