I have used it for 5 years. I would not fish with mono ever again.
i've used it for years. in fact,i used it this morning and it casts great. i buy the 1500 yard spools as it is less that way.
I just started using it last year and love it. I'm gradually respooling everything with Power Pro high vis yellow 30lb and 50lb. I don't think I'll ever go back to mono.

Catman.
:) hey bill how did you do. whats gone on down there. havnt been down cause car motor went. but will be back on them soon . thanks billr
splitshot. still blues. i'm getting trout, but not big. there is an occassional one but very few. they are still spawing. you can see them at night, but will not hit. when this spawn is over, lookout they will be skinny, but hungry.
:) thanks bill i asume your talkin the pier at cape hen. how about broadkill or rosey inlet. thanks again billr. oh and are you still hitin on the light leads and little plastics.
SS. yes, i am getting spike trout, blues, flounder, and spot. do not believe the stories that there are alot of big trout. there are an occasional one but few. there is a tackle shop that says they are getting large numbers, but they want to sell bait and anything else you can be talked into. tackle shops are not the great expounders of truth. fortuneatly only about two are offenders . they are spawing and are not taking. hopefully it will be over by monday and the trout will be big, thin, and hungry. i'll let you know.
does Power pro cast farther?
power pro casts at least 2wice as far...easily
so I'll be casting 500 feet?
Braids

All braids I have used will outcast mono significantilly. However, there are pro/cons to them. Pros: Castability, zero stretch (if preferred) Cons: Tough on some reel gears if not matched properly, will cut other lines on surf and piers, will cut fingers & hands if not careful. Try it on one rig and make a call. Lotta money to drop before the jury is in. Good luck!

One more "PRO",Macman, braids last a loooooooong time. I've had fireline on spinners for yr and have gotten over 2 yrs of use on a fillup, fish every weekend too.. Got a friend who guides in Fla.,he uses fireline also and gets at least 1 season out of a fillup, and he fishes everyday..
It's not power pro,but I'm sure it will do the same.. IMHO,lastability, outweights price.. ;)
Any1 ever fight a large fish, such as a 50#+ bullnose ray,and have the Power Pro dig into there spool?Happened to me,so I use the stuff, only, on my lite tackle gear and lighten up on the drag.I don't crank down on the drag, but try to fish them in.Since I know I have @ least 150 yards of PP and another 100 yards of Dacron backing,I will let the fish swim and tire themselves out, versus tearing up my drag gears in my reels, and having the PP dig itself in my spool.Ihave learned to not muscle a catch in but to fish the catch in.

My .02 cents
i use 20# power pro and do not put all the pressure on my gears. you have to use your drag an dfight the fish. horseing them in will tear up your equip. fast. i use 20#/ 10-12 lb leader.so if i hook a big ray i just crank down and break the leader. then i'm back in business in a couple min.
BillR,

I was thinking about putting braid on my yet-to-be-determined spinning reel I plan on using for IRI and the jetty. Have a 9' Tica rod that handles 12-25 lb test. Would you go with 20# or 30# braided line?

Thanks

Sandcrab
Biilr uses #20

on his penn slammer. That's the one on his 15' rod he uses at IRI :D
at IRI i use 20# on a 460 slammer, i an currently using an 8 ft. star rod. i also use a 7ft st.crouix with a 460 slammer. i have 2 450s. both have 20#.a 9ft. tica should make an excellent combo. if using a spinning rod 20# is more than enough. if conventional use 30# as it has less tendancy to dig in.
BillR,

Thanks for the info. As I do not make the big bucks (And EBay does not give VS reels away), I will probably go with the Nautil 6500 Pro for my new Tica 9' spinner. 20# braid sounds like the way to go.

Now for the braid selection... :D
SC. i use power pro because of it' round shape. i believe it will cast further. i am not sure of the following. a lot of products are made by someone other than the name that appears on the package. my understanding is is that almost all fiber[spectra blend] is a patent of allied signal of chicago. the only company that weaves it in the usa is gudebrod. it means to me that it's all made in one factory. power pro is round, firline is oval and is coated i don't know about spiderwire or the rest. i need a rest.
