My buddy caught his first pompano yesterday, and I was really jealous. I tried all day to catch one but had no luck.
Today I caught my first Pompano, a 14" heavy. What a great looking fish. I ran out of blood worms and used squid strips. I then tried using just the tentacles on kingfish rigs and that was the trick! I had as much fun catching it as releasing it!
I also caught a nice 3" sand shark....watch those teeth!

On flat glassy days on the surf-I will use sand fleas and a #2 long shank gold hook with a maximum of 10 lbs test as a leader(a bout a foot) and use a Carolina Rig(sliding sinker,bead and 20 lbs swivel) to fish for Pompano.Awesome on lite tackle.
