This year, the floating Sargassum Seaweed is going to be way worse than any Red Tide we've had in years. Starting now with the Spring Break crowd, beach goers are pretty upset with the floating crap.
If you are planning a Pier, Dock or Surf fishing trip this Spring or Summer on any Florida Coast, you really need to have a "Plan B" in the works just in case your Plan A gets squashed.

since this is a 5,000 mile long blob, the currents, wind, gulf stream, etc. will definitely affect the path of displeasure.
Just keep watching it on the internet, weather channel, etc. if you are making plans to visit any of the Southern Beaches. Like a storm, it can go from Key West to the Outer Banks and from Havana to Corpus Christi.

Does nobody fish offshore? Sargassum is the floating seaweed that holds tons of small baitfish (filefish, sargassum fish, etc) and is a magnet for dolphinfish (mahi mahi), as well as many other species.
Might not be great for sunbathers or surf fishermen, but it is a godsend if you fish offshore. Does not contain toxins like red tide.

Well, since I am planning on being in St Augustine early May thanks for the heads up. I did not know it was going that far north........hope we miss it. After getting stuck in the big blow last spring in Hatteras and the declining fishing just thought a change was in order. Ramp 55 has always been my fav ramp. I just wonder how much longer it actually survives. Its almost a wash over now. I like pomps that much I guess to chase em to Florida.
