I was at the Rodanthe Pier last week in the Outter Banks and the dock master
was telling me about the Mahi Mahi (dolphin) that were caught off the piers there.
He said when the Gulf Stream comes close to shore, it brings all the Blue Water
species with it . . . . On the photo walls, there were photos of the dolphin and one 18" baby sailfish.

so yes, it does happen "once in a blue moon"

ACTUALLY, every summer
You will see an occasional sailfish and/or dolphin caught off the piers at the OBX. This past summer Avalon, Jennette's , Rodanthe and Avon caught smaller sails and dolphin.
Sails; Nothing full grown like the one in the video.. Hats off to the angler for breaking him off once he got it to the pier.
Even though he did not touch his leader, I assume, I'd still call that a "release citation."

hey 2na, when I was driving down Rt.12 in Hatterous, I saw a fishing charter company
called something like Big2na or something similar - only caught a glimpse of it.
is that you ???

and my wife would absolutely freak OUT if she caught a dolphin off the pier !!
ruined for life - sell all our stuff - and move to the OBX just for her fishing !!!!
