to be honest anthony i was just too busy running around between flycasting, surfcasting and plug casting to see much of what was happening!
i do remember one person, who,s name escapes me at the moment [help andy!], that was backcasting with a rather unusual rod. it was a normal century blank, tip and butt, fitted into what looked like the mast from a windsurfer to make a 3 piece 20 footer
There is a great train of thought by some, the longer the rod the further the cast, though in reality the distance cast is always determined by the sinker speed. In some cases a shorter rod will outcast a longer rod.
Finding your optimum rod length will take time.
