Penn Battle 2 6000 Spooling problem

Hey guys i bought a Penn Battle 2 6000 a while back and spooled it up last night. The line tapers from the top to the bottom just a tad bit. A little notch of empty space is at the bottom of the spool, the taper isn't terrible, but it is definitely noticeable.

After some looking online, it seems like i need to add a washer to raise the spool higher up on the spool shaft. The thing is, i do not understand where to put this said washer.

By looking at the reel. There is the Gear on the spool shaft, that makes that clicking sound when the drag is loose. Ontop of the gear is the Thrust Washer ( 1211629 60-5000BTL THRUST WASHER ). Then ontop of that washer goes a small bearing, and then there is a C locking clip. Inbetween that C locking clip and the Gear that is built into the main shaft, there is no space to add another washer.

Clearly the Spool is resting on this white Thrust Washer and not much else, and it seems impossible to fit another washer underneath that C clip. It doesn't seem right to put a washer above the bearing or around it, cause the hollow receptacle is too deep for the spool to actually even rest on the bearing.

Is my though process correct on this? I bought this used, so i have no idea how the supplementary washers look. In this Alan Tani thread on the Penn Conflict, the reel came with supplementary washers to change how the spool lays.

Here is the Batlle 2 6000 Schematics: http://www.scottsbt.com/catalog/store/images/pennparts/schematics/btl6000.pdf

Maybe the supplementary washer is a lot thinner? I can wiggle the bearing up a little bit, but idk if i could fit another Thrust washer. I can't think of another place to put a washer.

I also assume these thrust washers are made of teflon? Or plastic? I cannot find any teflon washers at Home depot.com . . :(

I have a Fierce 6k that came with two washers. Schematic is similar, but no spindle bearing. The washers are identical and very thin. You might be able to get two in, depending on the thickness. The Battle, Fierce, and Conflict are pretty similar.
If you have no room between the top of that thrust washer and that bearing you might be in trouble. That is where you lay it on the Fierce, basically double up the thrust washer.
I hear you. If they are the same part as for the Fierce, they are really thin. Micrometer to measure thin. Might help though, especially if they have a package insert describing how to fix line lay like that. I would think they would have to be at least a millimeter thick, but there is no way mine are anything near that.
I never received an insert (that I recall) but the newest Fierce that I bought had 2 thrust washers. I will check to see how the line is. I thought they did pretty well.
I might take apart my battle 8ks to see if they have two or not. They are definitely newer than the Fierces.
If you still cannot get another thrust washer below that bearing, I wonder if you could float one on top of that bearing? The C-clip might tear it up though?
Hope the rotor cup helps. I was looking over my Fierces and a couple had really sticky spools. After finally getting the spool off I found some corrosion on the spool shaft (brass). Touched it up with the dremel and poly brush and put some corrosionX on it. Didn't seem to help, as the spin rate of the spool without any pressure on it doesn't match my others. I have to find a small poly scrub brush for the inside of the spool. Can't recall dunking this one either. idk, maybe that one was used by other family?
I checked my Fierces last night. One I had bought a season before the other two. The older one has two really thin thrust washers, the other two had 1 thicker one. I think Penn got some feedback and changed them out.
I didn't get time to look at the Battles. (they are not the battle II, just the battle), so I can't confirm what mine are like. Leaving for a week at the beach tomorrow and of course all hell has broken loose getting stuff ready. :)
Good news you got some help from Penn, nothing better than having a company behind you!
