When checking the spool side to side movement , should the lever on the right be in free spool mode or retrieve mode?
As I mentioned in another thread the Wife got me a Blue Yonder for Christmas, well unknown to all, Santa slipped me a Penn 525M in the back door. Having always fished spinner rigs, I think I am in for a whole new world of fishing. I use Penn Battalion rods on most of my spinner rigs but for these new reels the budget would only support Penn Prevail rods, hope they will be ok, at least until can afford something better.

One more question, I recently bought a St. Croix Mojo Surf Spinning rod for one of my spinning reels. When mounting the reel I noticed how small the guides were, actually the first guide is a little smaller than on the Prevail casting rods. I contacted St. Croix, they said that guides were small on the spinning rod because the rod is designed to be used with braid line which doesn't coil like mono. Question will be Penn 525M work on the Mojo spinning rod?

Thanks for help.

It will.

I'm not a big fan of the purple MoJoes... I hate their guide system.. They assume everyone will be using braid which isn't the case in spinning reels. The older St Croix surf rods were really good.

Honestly, pairing a rod to reel should be dictated by the type of fishing you plan to be doing.
A rod that is rated for "11-12 ounces" shouldn't be used as a "Pompano" rod. If you plan on mainly bottom fishing for mullet, Pomps, flounder etc. Use a lighter rated rod. You want the rod to load properly with the weight and bait range you intend to use.

A four ounce sinker and a couple of sand fleas won't get the full porential of an "eleven to twelve ounce" rated rod.

He's talking about an 11-12 FOOT rod. But your point is valid, obviously.
