Hi, I have a Penn 310 GT reel I bought new, used it once. I was thinking of using it for pier fishing. Would it be to light, what # braid should i use, what # mono leader should i use. I have other reels to use , but i wanted this reel to see some action. What rod lenght would be good to use. Thank's:confused:

The 310 GT is a levelwind graphite body reel. It is a good small trolling reel for primarily fresh water. It will be extremely hard to cast without backlashing on a regular basis, because of the levelwind. If you are just going to drop it over the side of the pier it will be fine.

I have used its bigger brother, the 320 GT on a pin rig, for a former girlfriend. I have seen King Mackerel landed with the 320.
