Took the kid to school and decided to make a stop by the pier to see how it was coming along. Figured I might as well take my pompano rod. First cast, this hits. Not a pompano but a nice red, probably 24-25". Only fish caught but I didn't stay long since it was cold and windy. Sorry about the photo quality, it was taken on my cell phone.

Here's some pictures of the pier. Looks like they've built out the new pilings and deck to about where the barricade fence was on the old structure.

I think I might go back down there. It's cold and windy but there's not a single oceanfront pier in the county that's not under construction/repairs right now and I want some dang pompano.

I went to another spot around noon, same bait. First cast, same result. Not a single fish after that either.

hmmm. maybe i should try that tactic of 1st cast, catch a fish, then go to another location. you can have supper in a day.
