I'm up in the area for a couple days for a conference and brought up the rods for free time. Any suggestions? My plan as of now is to just drive to the parking area way at the South end and throw shrimp and artificials, and the castnet if I can find some bait swimming. Brought surf rods and inshore rods to fish the creek on the backside. Help me out fellas!

The times I've stayed there & fished, I had better luck at the north bulkhead or at the causeways on the roads going in. From what I saw on the south end at the inlet or in the surf, those who caught fish were soaking baits. I don't even recall seeing anyone tossing lures catch anything. I tossed spoons & bucktails in the creek with no success, fishing from my Gheenoe & from shore.

We've stayed on the island closer to the north end twice, and caught plenty of our own bait with cast nets. Once in Oct, plenty of bait in the creek, once in early April, not much bait in the creek. The weather wasn't the best that April & I read reports afterwards that folks were starting to catch. We missed it by about 2 weeks. We caught flounder & black drum that Oct on the north end in the creek on both baitfish (live & dead) & shrimp. That April, only thing we caught was black drum at one of the causeways on shrimp. Talked to several folks then who had fished the surf on the south end & they weren't catching. We didn't catch anything on the north end either.

You may do fine with the warmer weather we've had this year.

How do you get to the north end to fish? The houses on the north end have an electronic gate up. Just walk around it and down the road or use an access and walk up the beach? Before the gate was up, we would park near the boat ramp and walk to the north end using the road. I just didn't want the people living there to freak out on us when we walk down their road dragging a kart. Lol

Well, last times I was there I was renting a place. We walked past the electronic gate, and no one said we couldn't. As long as we stayed on the road & didn't go into a yard, it seemed like no one was concerned. We even chatted with some of the folks who lived in the houses past the gate, and everyone was very friendly. Where we stayed there was also a public access to the beach & we walked along the beach too, but not while carrying our fishing gear. I think if you're going to fish & don't disrupt the locals, they don't have any concerns. If you park in the wrong places, toss trash or other
wise do something that they might have a concern over, that's when you might hear some grief & perhaps even get a visit from the island Police.
