Unless you are fishing for sharks, why not? I assume you already have the rod and reel. If not, then it depends on what you are fishing for and where you are fishing. There are lots of variables, but as long as you aren't fishing off a crowded pier, go for it. Not familiar with the rod, but there certainly isn't anything wrong with the reel. The longest Penn Powerstick Surf currently made for the US Market is 12 ft, and is rated 20-40 lb. line. As I said, if you already have the combo, use it and enjoy. If not, look for a different rod with a lower (accurate) line rating.
